The film is based on a true story about 16 year old Homer Hickam, who facing a future certain to land him in the coal mines, was inspired by the launch of the Russian satellite Sputnik to learn how to build a rocket. When a teacher believes in him, Homer overcomes his own challenges and the doubt and ridicule of his friends and family to eventually win a science contest and the grand prize - a college scholarship that changed the direction of his life.Images
