Grandview Green Lid Update
The City is in the very preliminary stages of exploring a new concept, tentatively called Grandview Green. This concept is responsive to the concern about the difficulty pedestrians and bicyclists encounter in crossing over Highway 100. It is also responsive to the suggestion to unify the public and privately owned properties located on the east and west sides of the state highway.
This concept would potentially expand the vehicle bridges that span Highway 100 with additional bridges that serve local traffic and create park space above the highway. This concept is frequently called a "highway lid" and has been successfully completed in Minnesota and several other cities in the U.S.
In this early phase of study, the City is exploring how the lid could serve to connect neighborhoods, enhance bicycle and pedestrian routes, increase sustainability practices and improve the economic productivity of the land around the highway in a way that provides new community benefits.
