Candlelight Contemplation: An Evening with the Work of Mary Catherine Solberg

For one evening in December, POTENTIAL dims the gallery and invites you to experience Mary Catherine Solberg’s exhibition by candlelight, at a slower pace than a typical gallery night allows. Her layered compositions and gold leaf catch the light differently after dark, and moving through the room quietly, without conversation filling the space, gives you a chance to notice details that are easy to miss on a busy opening night.

There’s no guided tour and no script. Live music plays the whole evening through, and a gong rings four times to give the night a gentle shape. It opens with a short centering meditation and ends with a brief closing circle before the room opens back up to conversation, and in between each ring comes with a simple reflection prompt you can follow or let pass while you keep wandering. Craft non-alcoholic mocktails from Curious Elixirs and light bites are out from the start, and you’ll take home a small card with the evening’s prompts.
