Speaker: Alison Petri | Abbey's Hope Scott and Katey Taylor founded Abbey’s Hope in July 2008 to honor their daughter Abigail Rose Taylor. On June 29, 2007, 6-year-old Abbey was disemboweled by a faulty drain in a wading pool. Over the next nine months she would endure 16 surgeries and a triple-organ transplant, before finally losing her battle in March 2008. Abbey's hope was that what happened to her would never happen to another child. In her name, the Taylors formed Abbey's Hope Charitable Foundation in July 2008. In the years since Abbey's Hope has become recognized as a national leader in drowning prevention and water safety advocacy. Abbey's Hope has influenced water safety legislation, provided over 50,000 free swim lessons, developed water safety programs, produced award winning PSAs, and most recently given away over 3,000 life jackets to families in the Twin Cities area.
